Post-Morocco Musings

So my plan to give a blow by blow account of my sojourn to the Maghrib has been foiled. No time, no time, no time. Have to catch up on the work that I missed, plus my crap internship. Ah well, but I thought I could give a few musings.

I bought a rug. It kicks ass. I wasn't planning on it but the guy at the factory took "I am a student and I can't afford it" as a personal challenge to his salesmanship. Family heirloom #1.

Got some Moroccan slippers. Some of the most comfortable things ever. I've taken to wearing them around the apartment over my Reefs, which is quite an event.

Both Fes and Marrakech are amazing. If you ever have a chance to go, do it.

MENALDS was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. It was up there with my traineeship in Egypt. I've been to international conferences before, but the sheer energy that was constantly about was amazing. Getting all the new AIESEC countries in the region together with huge representation was quite an accomplishment. The media coverage was just ridiculous (on national news three times).

AIESEC Jordan being there was kind of bittersweet for me though. It was so amazing to have them there, almost 20 of them. It was almost a year ago when I was selected by AI as part of the expansion team for Lebanon, with Jordan expanding at the same time. All of us meeting in Rotterdam to plan out how we were going to bring AIESEC to more countries in the Middle East, and how promising both Lebanon and Jordan looked. In the last year Jordan has two local chapters and over 60 members, which is phenomenal. I can't help but thinking that I could have been at MENALDS with a huge Lebanese delegation, changing even more lives than we did at this conference. Of course, that would have meant no war last summer and lot more people being better off. Sometimes it makes me wonder if we are really making a difference, remembering last summer. But then I get to meet amazing people from all over the world who believe in the same thing and are all working towards the same goal, and I feel a hell of a lot better.

I had the same thoughts about Lebanon. How Lebanese students were deprived the opportunity to join AIESEC because of what happened last summer. That's how I know we change lives ... knowing what it is people are missing.

Inshallah another opportunity arises.

Just fight the good fight. Don't let anything be bigger than you.
