Well, it already got more "interesting"

Woke up to a phone call from John in Jakarta. "Dude, wake up. They're shitting on your airport."

Sure enough the Israelis decided it would be nice to bomb the runways at Beirut International. Then they thought it would be a good idea to blockade Lebanon. So two routes for us poor foreigners to get out of here are gone. I mean, really, if Syria supports Hezbollah like the Israelis say they do, they'll just bring the guns over damn border.
I hear that more Israeli troops are moving towards the border. They're bombing all over the south and Baalbek in the Bekaa Valley, all strongholds of Hezbollah. Hopefully they will come to their senses, but it looks like Lebanon is going to be in it for the long haul. AGAIN. Looking into exit strategies.

What a fucking shit hole mess, stay safe man, and hopefully everyone will come to their senses. AIESEC will start in Lebanon, and it will thrive. But our number one priority at this point is your, Nisrin's, and Stella's safety.

Any possible evac plans announced by the embassies?

reports are coming out now saying they intend to blockade land ways as well. What's the atmosphere in Beirut? Any mobilazation?

Thanks everyone, I'm doing fine. I haven't heard anything about embassy evac plans, maybe they're waiting to see if Israel is going to invade, which seems like a possibility. I haven't really been out, but I don't think the Lebanese Army is getting involved at all yet.

Have you called the US embassy yet? Might not be a bad idea to hold up there.

Yeah I called the embassy, there is no news on any evacuation. I don't think I'm going to go there though, just about one of the biggest targets in the country, fortified or not. I'm thinking I might leave in the next day or two for Cairo via Damascus. We'll see what happens.

Topher,
Duck and cover!
You're stressing me honey! Why do you have to be so damn adventurous?

We're thinking of you - hang in there. Whatever you need - money, sanity, a warm safe bed in Missouri - it's yours.

We love you!

I can't offer any of that, except for the warm bed.

I talked to Nisrin today and she is still planning to come to Lebanon this weekend probably via Damascus. I told her to go to our grandparent's summer home in the mountains east of Tripoli if it gets bad and you are more than welcome to join her. We have access to 3 homes up there. They used to hole up there in the early 80's when Lebanon got really ugly.

But in general the north around Tripoli is a lot safer than Beirut.

Or at least consider going to Damasacus via Latakia...it might be a safer route...or you could always go up to Turkey.

If you can make it to Syria you and your mates are always free to catch the Latakia-Mersin (Turkey) ferry and stay at my place.

Is Stella in Lebanon? If so, send her my regards.

good call on the embassy btw.
is there much strife against foreigners now?
I know the situation in Pakistanwas intense during the cartoon riots with trucks driving around trying to mobilize people against western influence. Things are obviously much better now.

ill be keeping an eye on your blog for updates
