What not to do in a Muslim household...
So... I made a big mistake and a complete ass of myself. At least that's how I felt afterwards. I was going to Nasli's apartment, my personal buddy's Yasmine's best friend, so she could change and we could go to this Arabic play we were going to. I just followed them into the aparment. They kept walking further in, and I followed, and then they went into the room where Nasli's mom was. She was unveiled, when she normally is. She looked at me and asked who is this man in the house. Yasmine and Nasli had totally forgotten about warning me. And I didn't pay any attention to what was happening. So I felt pretty bad about walking in. For those who don't know, women who veil themselves can only be unveiled in front of men that are their relatives, like husbands, brothers, sons. I was obviously none of these. Luckily they were pretty understanding and weren't offended or anything. But I apologized a bunch anyway. First big culture shock of my trip. At least it happened in a pretty safe environment where I didn't get into too much trouble.
