The value of gainful employment

So I finally got a job, after 8 months of looking. It's not exactly what I was hoping for, but Vorsight is looking like a fun place to work. The job is sales related, very similar to what I spent years doing in AIESEC. Actually, I got the job through an old AIESEC friend, Adam Payne from Miami Ohio. Vorsight is small and expanding, with a pretty young office, which should be fun. And the owners are all about Work Hard, Play Hard. I start Monday, and I can't wait.

Out with the old, in with the new

So now that I am a week into 2008, I reflected a bit on 2007. Definitely not the greatest year out of my 25.5 years on earth. Did get my Masters, which is a pretty great accomplishment. Unfortunately not much has come of that other than stiff loan payments. But I've found some great friends, old and new to help me through it. And now for a new year and a new start.

Although I'm obviously continuing my search for that ever elusive employment, I made a decision recently to apply to some Ph.D. programs. It's pretty funny, considering how completely done with school I felt when I graduated in May. So I've started filling out the applications, getting in touch with people for recommendations, etc. Not looking to move very far, and there are some decent programs in the area like ICAR at George Mason University and the Government and Politics program at Maryland. So we'll see what happens.

Back to trying to keep my sanity through watching football.

December Football

I had a surprise for me yesterday. My friend John, whose family has season tickets to the Redskins-Bears game had an extra. So I decided to endure what was sure to be a bitterly cold evening (30 degrees at 8:15pm kickoff) to witness firsthand the second NFL game of my life.

I was not disappointed, by the cold, or the game.

First row club level seats, 35 yard line. Sweetness was to be had if only the Redskins would win. And, despite losing our QB for likely the remainder of the season, we won and found out our backup doesn't suck. Go Todd Collins.

Even though it is only my second NFL game, I still maintain that college football is so much better atmosphere wise. And the Redskins even have a marching band and fight song, which I don't think any other teams do.

At least we could go inside at halftime to thaw out our hands and feet. Yay club level.

Smooth Travels

I don't know if anyone else noticed this past weekend, but for me at least, it was by far the smoothest Thanksgiving for travel that I can remember. No lines, no crying babies, flights arriving early rather than 4 hours late. National airport was a ghost town when I got there on Wednesday night. Of course, we didn't have the weather that the midwest had, but still. It was great.

Fun with garters

This past weekend I went to a friends' wedding where I used to live in Pennsylvania. There was an open bar. Hilariousness ensued.

Drinking quite a bit before dinner, and more afterwards, I chose to participate in that great custom of the garter throw. I was drunk enough to be particularly amused by small objects flying through the air towards me and I reached up and grabbed what would be my doom.

Garter throw winner, meet bouquet throw winner. Play grinding music. Attempt to not make an ass of myself and put the garter on said (hot) bouquet winners' leg. Mission accomplished (for the most part). I'm sure there are pictures. But I don't think I will be posting them for my own embarrassment.

And this is what a Masters will get you...

I realize it has been a looooong time since I've posted on here. To be honest, I haven't had much to talk about.

My dad sent me a Post article today that really struck a chord with me. Because it is basically my life at the moment.

Back to keepin' on keepin' on.
